    Rachael Hansen

    Photo Placeholder Image

On June 18, 2011 Rachael married Dallen Stanley Hansen. He was a wonderful man who suffered from bipolar depression and the disease of addiction. Although Rachael didn’t understand the battles that were raging inside him, looking back she can see how her marriage and family felt the effects of his suffering. Even today, the extent and details of his actions remain hidden and unknown. Ultimately, Dallen lost his battle with the disease of addiction, leaving Rachael a widow at 35 years old on National Widows Day (5.3.2020). Finding his stash of illicit drugs two days later altered her grieving forever. Being 2.5 months postpartum as well as having their 6 year old and 3 year old to care for alone, there was a lot to unpack.

Some of the key elements in Rachael’s healing process have been learning how to separate the mess from the message, keeping grief emotions in their own lane and their honest size, allowing opposites to coexist in healing, and accepting, as well as to welcome moving forward in life. Along with these, her greatest element and aid has come from embracing and utilizing the Atonement of the Savior like never before.
