Jamie Townsend

Re-Entering Society Jamie moved to Austin, Texas in the summer of 1971 where her husband, Darryl, would work and enter the Ph.D. program in UT’s Education Department. They brought their first-born son with them. He would be joined by four other brothers and a sister through the years. Their Church callings became the focus of their lives. While Darryl served in several Priesthood administrative roles, Jami served for 20 years as Stake Young Women Camp Director, planning activities and firesides and teaching and loving the young women on backpacking trips. Then came the joy and calling of teaching early morning Seminary, which lasted 24 years. During that time she co-authored Power Teach with her good friend, also a Seminary teacher. From 1995-1998 she accompanied her husband to Nicaragua, where he served as the mission president. She learned Spanish and oversaw all of the medical needs of the missionaries.
